Kyle Powell l President & CEO

Kyle Powell is the co-founder and current President of SureHire Occupational Testing. He is an experienced physiotherapist and a dedicated entrepreneur. After graduating from the faculty of Physical Education (Sports Performance) and Science (Physiotherapy) at the University of Alberta, Kyle began practicing physiotherapy and immediately discovered an unserved need in the market. Fueled by his unique entrepreneurial instinct, SureHire Occupational Testing was born. SureHire is now a team of 150, and have tested over 500,000 workers & assists employers in creating safe, healthy and productive workforces through comprehensive medical and health testing programs.

Kyle is a valued speaker in the occupational testing industry while providing companies with the insight and resources they need to become employers of choice. His passion for leadership at all levels of the organization is expressed through the volunteer and community mentorship program that his company's core values are embedded in. Kyle is an active member of his community and has been involved with numerous boards including KidSport Edmonton, Alberta Diabetes Foundation and Entrepreneurs’ Organization.


Hal Middlemiss l Industry Expert, C.R.S.P

Mr. Middlemiss has over 30 years of industrial construction, commercial construction, and operations experience.  He has provided corporate and project Environmental, Health, Safety and Security leadership for dozens of industrial and commercial construction projects across Alberta, Canada, and the US. Included are safety-sensitive greenfield, brownfield, and operations industrial mega-projects up to $6B and 9000 workers. During this time, he served as a member of the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) Board of Directors and Executive, Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Construction Owners Association of Alberta (COAA) Safety Committee and a member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) Operations Safety Committee.  Mr. Middlemiss was awarded the Premiers Award for Excellence for participation on Alberta Labor Minister Clint Dunford’s Worksafe initiative charged with improving health and safety performance in Alberta. 

Mr. Middlemiss has been involved with Alcohol and Drug programs since 1998, participating in the development of the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace (COAA model) and leading a team of stakeholder industry experts for the 2014 revision.  Mr. Middlemiss has been responsible for numerous corporate and project implementations of the COAA model and has overseen over 30,000 alcohol and drug tests.  Mr. Middlemiss has trained hundreds of leaders on the Canadian model and delivered industry-wide presentations to corporate and project leadership on the subject of Alcohol and Drug Policies.  Mr. Middlemiss brings years of experience in this area and in all areas of Safety Management.
