Alcohol Testing

Alcohol impairment can have serious effects in the workplace and because it is a legal substance, without testing, it can be hard to tell if a worker's drinking is either negatively affecting their job performance, or on the more serious end, endangering their own personal safety or the safety of the worksite.  In order to both combat and prevent workplace alcohol impairment, SureHire offers companies the ability to alcohol test their employees.

Alcohol testing can be done for pre-employment, random and post-incident cases and is often done along with an employment drug testing program.

In some cases alcohol testing is a government issued (ie. D.O.T. regulated businesses) mandatory practise, and in other industries it is a standard saftey precaution.

Breath Alcohol Testing

Breath alcohol tests measure the level of alcohol in a donor's system through an electronic monitor that measures alcohol molecules released in the carbon dioxide of a persons breath.  This reading calculates their Breath/Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC).  Within minutes of drinking alcohol, your blood alcohol concentration starts to rise. Unlike food, alcohol is absorbed directly through the walls of the stomach, goes into the bloodstream, and travels throughout your body and to your brain. This allows blood alcohol levels to increase quickly.  That is why this type of testing is a good gauge of current alcohol impairment.

Saliva Alcohol Testing

Like oral fluid drug testing, we can also perform oral fluid alcohol testing.  Two forms of saliva alcohol tests are available.  The first one is a qualitative result that determines a pass/fail based upon a pre-set level of alcohol in the system.  The set level of Breath Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C.) for this test is 0.02. 

The second option gives a quantitative, accurate result for Breath Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C.)  in the donor's system, opposed to a simple pass fail.

Urine Alcohol (Ethanol) Testing

This type of testing determines the levels of alcohol in the system by testing a donors urine.  It detects alcohol ingestion mainly within the past week, or longer with regular drinking, and it make take a couple of hours from the time of alcohol consumption to show up in a urine alcohol test.
This test is lab based, and no express results are available for it. 

It is important to note that this type of testing is not meant to indicate current impairment, but rather, may show historical alcohol consumption.
