Industrial Testing
SureHire offers occupational and pre-employment testing services to a variety of industrial sectors subject to occupational hazards such as heavy manual tasks involving repeated bending and twisting, exposure to loud noises, toxic fumes, gases and dusts.
Oil and Gas Industry
There are many occupational hazards in the preparation, drilling, production, completion, servicing and plugging of oil and gas sites. These include exposure to:
- Hydrogen sulfide gases and caustic soda (NaOH)
- Repetitive movements during use of tools while running and installing casing
- Muscle strain from improper lifting technique while replacing pipe and pulling slips
- Loud noises from drilling equipment
Your company can customize the services performed depending on your occupational testing needs. It is highly recommended that potential employees in this industry undergo a pre-employment health assessment (including drug and alcohol testing), critical strength and mobility testing, audiometric testing, carpal tunnel testing and pulmonary function tests due to the aforementioned occupational hazards.
Commerical Construction and Contracting Services
Effective October 2005, the construction industry introduced the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace. This model is a set of standards adopted by key partners in the industry to ensure a safe work environment by reducing the risks associated with drugs and alcohol. The goal is to provide minimum industry standards for pre-access and random drug and alcohol testing. The standards are periodically reviewed to ensure best practices are being implemented. While point of collection testing (POCT) was not originally included in this model, it is currently being reviewed to be added to the model at a future date. SureHire representatives can provide more information about the advantages/disadvantages of POCT versus lab-based methods of testing and how best to deal with non-negative results. SureHire offers:
- Both on-site mobile testing services and in-house testing services at one of our nine locations
- Over 9000 partner collection sites in North America
- Pre-employment, pre-access, reasonable suspicion, post-incident and random drug and alcohol testing services
- Breath, saliva, and urine-based alcohol testing
- Urine, oral fluid and hair-based drug testing
- Direct referral to a SAPAA certified substance abuse professional to provide addiction counseling
- Reasonable suspicion training and drug/alcohol policy development
Similar occupational hazards and standards also apply to, but are not limited to, aviation refueling and maintenance, railway maintenance and servicing, warehouse labourers and the mining and forestry industries.
